CALLING IN FOR A SHIFT
You work for yourself and directly for the family. This means the Family (your Employer) expects you to be responsible when calling in for shifts. The families depend on you for the care of their loved one and a disruption in timely care can be very stressful. It’s your job to alleviate as much stress as possible for the family.
CALL THE FAMILY
You should have the contact numbers for the family. Some families will want you to contact multiple members if needing to cancel a shift or request time off.
ASK IF THEY NEED REPLACEMENT CARE
It is the responsibility of the family to let us know if they need to find someone else to cover your shifts but it is always better to be proactive and ask them directly. This is your family, and if you wish to continue with them it is always a good idea to make sure their needs are met.

Let us know that we need to remove you from the schedule and let us know if the family needs a replacement for your shift.
Emergencies happen and we understand that last minute cancellations are sometimes unavoidable. Just remember that each family reviews and rates you based on your performance and professionalism. If you continually call in for shifts or leave clients with no care, your rating will suffer and we will not be able to recommend you to future families.
